The SLS began production in 2010 to replace the SLR, Mercedes-Benz's previous Grand Tourer. As a two door coupe powered by a 6.2L double camshaft V8, the SLS qualifies as a Grand Tourer as well and is also offered in a roadster version that has a soft top convertible roof. Although it has been offered with only a seven speed automatic transmission, it is a dual clutch system that lets the driver choose between using an automatic or going into manual transmission mode. With suicide doors and a distinctly sporty look to its shape, the SLS was inspired by Mercedes' older Gullwing version of a 300SL. The SLS continues production today.
